hello somerville!
Commonwealth Clayworks is a pottery studio offering classes and studio membership to the greater Somerville community. We work to create a welcoming community by connecting people through clay.
Clayworks Companion program enables senior citizens and people with limited mobility the ability to participate comfortably in our studio with a companion-helper. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
our classes
Clayworks is a beginner focused studio where we approach teaching foundational skills in a structured and concise way.

With each class we focus on teaching fundamental skills to create specific objects. For example, Wheel 1 teaching concepts focus on centering clay and creating walls. i.e. Bowl Making or Mug Making classes. Wheel 2 teaching concepts are making larger objects with more precise dimensions. i.e. Making a Teapot and Making Jars.
Our instructors from the top left; Zoë, Fern (owner), Diana, Leah, Hoay, Simon and Sophie.
Clayworks is an ADA friendly facility with curbside drop-off/loading areas.
We have:
-
(12) professional grade potter's wheels and several hand-building tables
-
mid-fire stoneware clay (cone 6), glazes, underglazes and stains
-
(2) onsite electric kilns
-
tools and aprons
